Lease rider

Another name for an attachment that modifies the standard lease - same idea as an addendum.

A rider is an attachment that changes or supplements the printed lease - a rent-stabilization rider, a renovation rider, a guarantor rider. 'Rider' and 'addendum' are used almost interchangeably.

Riders control over the form lease when they conflict, which is exactly why landlords use them - and why you should read them last and hardest.

Watch out

In rent-regulated apartments, some riders are mandatory disclosures that protect you. Missing ones can be a sign the landlord is cutting corners.
