Privacy Policy

The short version
The tools run in your browser. What you type into them - rent amounts, lease text, addresses, letters - stays on your device and is not sent to our servers unless a feature explicitly says otherwise and asks you first. Our own analytics are cookieless and anonymous. We don't sell data, and we don't sell ad space on this site. We do advertise Rentyfic elsewhere, and measuring those ads is the one place a third-party cookie can appear - see Advertising and measurement below.
What we collect
Anonymous usage analytics. To understand what helps renters and what's broken, we record events like page views, which tools get used, errors, and anonymous feedback (thumbs up/down, comments, and ideas you choose to submit). This uses a random identifier stored in your browser - no cookies, no IP addresses, no names, no account. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal by not persisting that identifier between visits.
Telling bots apart. A lot of what visits any website is automated - crawlers, scrapers, and uptime checks. So the same events are also scored for how the visit behaved (how fast pages opened, whether anything was scrolled or clicked) alongside the browser's own automation flag, purely to keep our traffic numbers honest. None of it identifies you.
Your approximate state. To save you a step, tools with a state picker pre-select the US state your internet connection appears to be in, using the rough location our hosting provider derives from your IP address. We don't store it, and you can always change the selection.
What you choose to send us. If you email us or submit feedback text, we receive what you wrote. Don't include personal details you'd rather keep private - the tools never require them.
What we never collect
The contents of your lease, your letters, your calculations, and your addresses are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to us. We never ask for government IDs, financial account numbers, or passwords.
If we add features that need more
Some planned features (like tracking a deposit dispute over time) would need an email address to work. If we launch them, they will be opt-in, explain exactly what is stored and why before you provide anything, include one-click deletion of your data, and this policy will be updated first. Nothing existing will start collecting more silently.
Advertising and measurement
We sell no advertising space on this site and show no third-party ad units. We do buy ads for Rentyfic on platforms such as Google Ads, so renters can find the tools. If you arrived from one of those ads, the advertising platform may set its own cookie or identifier in your browser to record that the click led to a visit, and to measure which tools people actually use afterwards. That measurement tells us how many people did something - never who you are, and never anything you typed into a tool.
On our own side we record only which campaign sent you - a name like "deposit-us" that we chose ourselves - and that the click was a paid one. We deliberately do not keep the click identifier the ad platform puts in the link, because that value is unique to you, and we do not keep the search words you typed to find us, because on this site those words describe your housing situation. Neither is stored anywhere in our analytics.
We do not upload email addresses or other customer lists to advertising platforms, and we do not build audience segments out of the legal or financial situations people look up here. Nothing about which state pages, deposit amounts, or lease problems you viewed is shared with an ad platform for targeting.
You can turn off personalised Google advertising at My Ad Center and opt out across participating networks at optout.aboutads.info. Our own tools work exactly the same either way.
Third parties
Hosting and anonymous page analytics are provided by Vercel. Advertising measurement is described above. Partner links (for example, insurance quotes) go to the partner's own site with its own privacy policy - partners never see what you entered into our tools.
Your choices
Use the tools without any account. Clear your browser storage to reset the anonymous identifier at any time. Enable Global Privacy Control and we won't persist it at all. To ask about or delete anything you've sent us directly, email hello@rentyfic.com.
