Month-to-month tenancy
A rolling tenancy that renews every month until either side gives proper notice.
A month-to-month tenancy has no fixed end date - it renews each month automatically. Either side can end it (or the landlord can change terms, including rent) with proper written notice, commonly 30 days.
It's flexibility traded for stability: easy to leave, but rent can rise and the tenancy can end on relatively short notice, subject to state and local limits.
Watch out
Your notice deadline is tied to the rental period. Miss it by a day and you can owe a whole extra month - check your state's exact rule.
